Oh boy, this is quite a subject... It is only my personal experience I am talking about with the calcium issue. I like to share this experience to give another point of view.
I was told I was in danger of severe osteoporosis 3 years ago at age 50 with extremely low levels of calcium and magnesium, despite having taken some kind of supplement all of my adult life. I needed magnesium IV's for two days in 3 hour drips, as Mg was so low in my bloodwork results. At the time I was taking calcium/magnesium tablets with a ratio of 1/2, 2 being magnesium. On doctor's recommendation. Highest doses. With vitamin D in highest doses. Clearly something was not working for me, even after almost a lifetime of taking some kind of Calcium/mg tablet or liquid.
I became vegetarian 2 1/2 years ago, and stopped taking calcium or magnesium supplements, and Vit. D. I eat very little dairy products. All my bloodwork as of March 2011 shows normal amounts of Ca and Mg, as well as Vit. D. I would not presume to tell anyone what to do with their body, just saying this is my story and I'm glad I did the research.
Thank you everyone for your input, it is a touchy subject to say the least.
Namaste!

Yes, Chewbit, that is true for some people, but the ones I've worked with in the past got it from being on cortisol or steroids pills medicines they could not live without, other factors were being on birth control pills, and like me who had never taken birth control pills, is hereditary.

Eugene, no, most people don't get osteoporosis from being told to drink milk, and unfortunately, Fit for Life, is not recommended for those people who have health conditions

Our bodies take in all the vitamins and minerals from the foods we eat, these are required for our bodies to function in a balance state. As in all things moderation is key. However, if you are lacking in a mineral or a vitamin,  there is no reason to suffer from it when you can take a supplement.

I suppose it depends on your diet and your doctor. Oh yeah like you said. From a medical standpoint.

I know that most people got osteoporosis and made it worse because their doctors told them to drink a lot of milk. I'm sure they did the best they knew at the time.

People following the Fit for life lifestyle recover from osteoporosis. But then they have a whole diet/lyfestyle that goes with it. They don't supplement on anything.

Eugene, from a medical stand point you are incorrect. Bone density scans show that people who don't have enough calcium need super calcium drugs to help them from breaking bones in the future. When you are young yes, you don't need calcium but when you are older, women for the most part, need it because other factors, such as hormones, which play a huge factor in the depletion of calcium, thereby supplements are absolutely necessary, unless they plan on getting full blown osteoporosis. The sun and/or vitamin D pills will not suffice.

We dont really have to supplement on calcium. There is calcium in most everything we eat.

In "Fit for life" they teach that the best way to get calcium is to get out in the sun.

Because in the sun vitamin A converts to the best vitamin D for us and the best vitamin D along with magnesium are the transport and integrating agents for calcium. Thus calcium is already there, all it needs is a transport and absorption agent. (When vitamin A is finished sunburn begins. So supplement on vit A rather.)

One's body uses calcium to break toxic animal protein down to harmless so it can leave the system. The more red meat you eat the better the chances of calcium deficiency. Milk is counter productive as a calcium supplement.

So if bones are a problem I cut down on red meat or animal protein and I get in the sun.

I am dreaming my life in this moment. I live in a world of illusion made by images of light. The story I create is a virtual reality that is only true for me, the one who creates it.  from the Toltec Wisdom of Don Miguel Ruiz ... "lie" has interesting connotations in the Ruiz Toltec system of beliefs.

I always had a feeling that everything was a lie but what i want to know is why is the government and everyone want to kill us?

Yes, we as women should work. We should be able to take care of ourselves. We are suppose to be able to help our other half. We are suppose to be almost equal. We as a group are behind in this area of life. All women should be able and obligated to work for themselves, and if the husband does not make enough money then she should help out. I dont agree with this notion that we are suppose to be staying home to sit around take care of the kids while the husband goes to work, women can work from home too.
