Would think magnetic metal shielding would do a better job for shielding against a magnetic pulse.Also to have surge protection on your power and internet lines.As a Pc technician I deal with many lightning strike damages here that came down the lines from other suburbs.

Maybe we should open a "Flare warning" group or an "immediate action warning " group where you can post your warnings for anyone ahead of you to read before you shut down.

Maybe I must get some Michelin super grips for my PC?

PS: I think these people selling PC safes here in SA would have a field day selling them?

Eugene, it is confusing. I've been told that a car is a safe place during a lightning strike because it has rubber tires, so you are not grounded. I think the electronics in your car would be fried. Also I don't think you would want to be touching any metal parts in your car. I've never found anyone who wanted to experiment on this though. Myself included!

Hi Eugene, A Faraday Cage doesn't have big gaps like a windscreen? An EMP strike would need to be shielded by a close-knit grid of metal or better still for a computer/ext hard drive etc, a metal dustbin. We have looked at this prospect for months now and provided we get a warning of an EMP strike we'd have 24 hours-ish max. We decided the simplest protection for our brains and body electrics would be a pig-ark shelter. In Ireland we've had examples of people having to wear shielded helmets to protect themselves from nearby phone masts and of course, the Military have perfected the EMP strike as a weapon to knock out electrics and communications. What a mad race we are? Roll on Earth Changes - the time for a sort out is overdue and we can't seem to do it ourselves, alas :o-( My prayer is for a Mass Awakening to our lack of love and cooperation.

Ok this is becoming contradictory then.

When you drive in your car and a lightning bolt hits you will be safe because you are sitting in a Faraday cage. Thus the electricity will go through the metal and not your body.
Yet this same car's electronics can be disabled with an electromagnetic pulse from a solar flare?

Not to be difficult here just thinking for myself. I must be missing something.

Have a google for the 'Carrington Effect' Eugene. He was a well respected 19th c UK Astronomer who first spotted (pun intended) Sun spots and solar flares etc. There was a very large solar flare, they come in three classes, I think this was the biggest and X class, which affected Canada. It completely knocked out their telegraph system and took weeks to repair. They had another in the 1970's and only recovered quickly due to the help of countries around them. These days we are almost totally reliant on electricity and a massive solar flare would cause chaos for weeks. Most transport, cars as well would stop because practically all are reliant on electrics. No transport, no way to get food etc. Financial infrastructure, reliant on computer systems would collapse, no ATM's, no money, no food - people panicking etc. Without transport the maintenance systems would have a hard job. It goes on but I won't bore you, suffice to say it would be a few weeks before resumption of 'normal' services. Not sure about MerKaBa but I expect someone on here does :-) I'd lay in enough for a couple of months. Protect your electrical stuff in a Faraday cage, might help. Listen to Drake and make sure you have enough loo rolls lol!

As I listen to this a few things come to mind.

How long would it take for logistics and infrastructure to restore? In other words....how much food and water should we store?

Also the spinning of our MerKaBa to carry us through the changes without falling apart energetically. The three days of darkness.

AFAIK when a device is switched off it will not be affected by solar flares (EMP). So its best to switch everything off that one is not using at the time including external hard drives and stuff. I foresee a solution where the backup system switches itself on for backups and then switches itself off again when its done. That way restoration will happen faster.

As far as pole reversal is concerned, I am happy to say that I am living high above the sea level inland  so I am not too worried about tsunamis and stuff. Earthquakes might cause a problem though.
